Wellbeing - PSHE and RSE
INTENT
At St Mark and All Saints the knowledge and skills children learn in their PSHE lessons enable them to become confident, positive, independent, healthy and responsible members of society. They also help to develop our children spiritually, morally, socially and culturally (SMSC). PSHE is taught across the school from Reception to Year 6 on a weekly basis. As a school we follow the Jigsaw scheme of work, which is a spiral, progressive scheme of work giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and develop positive relationships with themselves and others. With an ever-changing society, we provide our children with a strong understanding of the diverse world around them and support them in playing a positive role in contributing to the school and the wider community. Weaving through the heart of our PSHE teaching is a commitment to enhancing and promoting our core Christian values - Perseverance, Respect, Service, Forgiveness, Friendship and Courage.
IMPLEMENTATION
Jigsaw consists of six half termly units (puzzles), each containing six lessons (pieces) covering each academic year. These are:
-
Being Me in My World
-
Celebrating difference
-
Dreams and Goals
-
Healthy Me
-
Relationships
-
Changing Me
Every piece has two learning intentions: one specific to PSHE including RSHE and the other designed to develop emotional literacy and social skills.
Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus.
A continued focus on British Values runs through the whole programme.
