Special Educational Needs
At St Mark and All Saints C of E Primary School, we are proud of our inclusive, nurturing ethos. We are committed to children achieving their full potential and believe this is gained through outstanding teaching, high expectations of behaviour and an environment where they feel happy, safe, valued and respected.
All pupils receive high quality teaching using a range of approaches to ensure the curriculum matches their needs. Children sometimes experience difficulties in their learning and require additional support to accelerate their progress to enable them to work at or above age related expectations.
Our Inclusion Lead, Mrs Mills, works closely with class teachers and parents to identify at the earliest opportunity children who may need additional support. We then decide on appropriate support options, strategies and interventions. We regularly review the provision we put in place to ensure we are supporting children to make the best possible progress in their learning.
Teaching throughout the school is differentiated to meet the needs of all and our high percentage of adult to child ratio means an abundance of high quality support is available.
SEND support encompasses all areas of the child's development which include:
-
if the pupil has a cognition or learning need
-
if the pupil has a social, emotional or mental health needs
-
if the pupil has a physical, medical or sensory need
-
if the pupil has social communication or language needs
We value the partnership between home and school and encourage parents to share concerns or information as soon as a need arises. We are always there to listen and advise.
Our Inclusion Lead is Mrs Jill Mills. She can be contacted via email SENCO@stmarkallsaints.uk or by telephoning the school office on 01483 422924
We have ambitious expectations for all children, including children with Special Educational Needs.

Requests for a Statutory Education, Health and Care (EHC) Needs Assessment (Parent Carers)
In accordance with legislation, parents may make a request for a statutory assessment for their child at any time and from the 5th October 2020 this request will be received by the L-SPA in common with requests from schools. Parents may exercise their rights to write to Surrey County Council and make their request in any format they choose. However, the L-SPA wishes to work collaboratively with parents at an earlier stage and, where possible, to see what existing support or advice may be available to meet a child’s needs in a timely way.
Therefore, we welcome calls from parents who have concerns and would like to discuss their child’s needs for early support. It is also helpful practice for parents to continue to discuss their concerns with a senior member of their child’s school or setting where feasible or appropriate and ideally for parents and the school to work together to make a request for assessment in order that we can have the most holistic overview.
A parental Request for EHC Needs Assessment online form is under development which can support parents in determining the evidence and views which will help us gain a greater understanding of the child’s special educational needs and will be available on the Surrey SEND Local Offer soon. In the interim if you have any questions please contact Surrey SEND Advice Service or ring the L-SPA on 0300 200 1015.
